Our Ethos

Curated by nature.
Crafted by legacy.

Most safari companies sell trips. We extend an inheritance. For four generations, our family has tracked lion on foot, slept beneath the southern stars, and learned the names of the rivers before we learned to read maps.

That intimacy cannot be bought — only shared. Every Ellara journey is composed personally, drawing on relationships with Africa's finest camps and guides built over decades, not booked over the internet.

It is why we remain small, why we take on few travellers each year, and why Ellara Safaris is available by personal referral.

Where We Take You

Africa, at its rarest

From the Sabi Sand's leopard country to the floodplains of the Okavango, we book the whole of sub-Saharan Africa — and only its finest corners.

"We do not send you to Africa.
We take you home with us."

Signature Journeys

No two itineraries have ever been the same

Each journey begins with a conversation, not a brochure. We compose your safari around the season, the wildlife, your family, and the moments you are travelling for — then weave in the camps and private guides we would choose for our own.

Expect the finest lodges and camps on the continent — grand safari houses and owner-run gems too small and too special to appear on any list.

Cuisine

Farm-to-table, fire-to-fork

Africa's great lodges have become some of the world's most exciting kitchens — kitchen gardens behind the camps, breads baked at dawn, and dinners served where no restaurant could ever be built.

From the Cape's world-ranked tables to a braai under the Milky Way, we build journeys for travellers who remember the leopard — and the bread.

Conservation & Community

Luxury that leaves the wild wilder

The bush gave our family everything. Giving back is not a marketing line — it is the fourth generation's responsibility. We favour camps whose beds fund anti-poaching patrols, community schools and clinics, professional training, and the protection of the very land you will fall in love with.

Our Commitment

By personal referral

Ellara Safaris takes on a small number of travellers each year, most introduced by past guests. If you have been referred, we look forward to meeting you. If not — write to us anyway. Some of our favourite travellers found us on their own.
